Diary of Julius Valarian, Fyrmont / Ack-Ack Day

This is the Third Month of Juliu’s Diary Series.
More Notes: Fyrmont is the 8th month of the Karameikos Year, and the last month of Summer.

Karameikos is a country that was up until 100 or so years ago just a bunch of mini-nations that had a very good trade system set up with the outside world. 100 years ago the Empire of Thyatis (The Roman Empire of Mystara) decided they didn’t want to risk anyone else controlling this trade, and invaded. 29 Years before these diaries begin, a Nobleman of Thayatis, Gave up all his land and possessions in a deal with the Empire to free this nation from the Empire, putting it under his rule. He has been a fair ruler for these 29 years, and to this date, the only Thyatian the locals truly trust. His name: Stefan Karameikos, he renamed the country the “Grand Dutchy of Karameikos” to give the illusion that it was still protected by Thyatis, and thus ward off any future invasions from other countires as he tried to re-unite his new people.

Tax collectors came today. Since we did not have any crop, we had to use some of our savings to pay. If we don’t get enough crop growing soon, I may have to go back into the military, or Adriana may have to start teaching magic again. A shame, neither of us wish to move back to the city.

Karameikan Royals,
The standard Currency.

Fyrmont 9th 999 (Ack-Ack Day)
When we married I promised my beautiful wife we would try to preserve both of our cultures. Today is Ack-Ack Day (Gnomes and their strange names), Anyways. Last week when I was selling some of our vegetables in Radlebb Keep, I met a Gnome from Serraine, and for a fee He wrote down the story of the Great Battle Defending The Flying city from Red Dragons for me. I took this manuscript and illustrated it. I also made a small square pin for each of us to wear.
I hope we can share this with our children in the future.

This afternoon, the sky went completely black for a moment. Like the sun was being eaten by a beast. I’m sure the locals believe that. But I have faith that the immortals were involved and had their reasons.

Fyrmont 15th 999 Ixion’s Day (Adventure Day)
We were woken up before the sunrise this morning to Vladimir and his son Vlademar, our nearest neighbours, building something. So, I went out to find out what was going on. Vlademar, was excitedly telling me that today was “Adventure Day.” He took a short moment to try and explain before his father put him back to work. Apparently, it is a celebration of the Immortal Ixion, the wanderer. On Adventure Day the parents and adults set up a kind of Adventure course for the kids. It seems to be 1 part obstacle course, 1 part scavenger hunt, 1 part puzzle & riddle solving. The goal is to either find or show the 5 points of virtue. I’m not clear on that part. He and his father were responsible for the Trials for the 8~12-year-old children.

12:00: I asked Mikail at the Tavern, and he told me the 5 Virtues:
1. Wisdom
2. Bravery
3. Intelligence
4. Persistence
5. Empathy

Someone has begun construction of a building about 2 ½ miles out of town. The boy, Skelly saw orcs working on the building as he was out visiting animal friends. Adriana has a bad feeling about this, as do I. for different reasons. The presence of orcs is not a problem for us, as we have both dealt with tribes of them in the past, but usually They don’t just start building stone towers.

One of the Orcs I was Watching,
Others called him “Sorkak”
