The Atlantis Legend
Prologue, Modern Day
The light from the fireplace flickered, casting a circle of light into a darkened room, and shimmered on the auburn hair of a young woman lying on her stomach in front of the fire.
Three other people, two young men and a young woman who looked identical to her, watched her across the Trivial Pursuit board. She pulled a card out of the box and asked: “What is the name of the mythical continent that sank to the bottom of the Atlantic?”
One of the young men began to snicker, and the other, waiting for the laughter to die down, looked at one of the girls with auburn hair, and attempted to pick up the thread of an earlier conversation.
“You never did tell me, how did you three meet anyway?”
The first girl turned and looked at him, her hair falling between her and the light, casting her face into
shadow. She glanced over at the man in question, who had moved from sniggering to outright, gut wrenching laughter. “Well Jay,” she said, “It’s a long story.” Robyn, the first girl, looked back at Ætolus, who had stopped laughing, and had started to gasp for breath. “Have you figured out the answer yet your highness?”
“How long have you know him?” Jay wondered almost to himself.
“Since before the sinking of Atlantis,” said Ætolus, “which is, by the way, the answer to that question, and gives me another pie. I’m gonna win this time.” He grinned and placed a blue pie in his game piece.
Robyn looked over at him, her strange green eyes glowing with reflected firelight. “Good Luck,” she laughed. Picking up the dice, she tossed them onto the board, and rolled a pair of sixes.
“But what about Nikki?” Jay pondered.
“When did she come around?” It was common knowledge in the group of how close Robyn, Nikki and Ætolus where, and Jay didn’t have the slightest clue as to why yet.
“Oh it was about the same time.” Nikki, the second girl, continued as Ætolus and Robyn began to battle over the last piece of plastic pie.
First Ætolus grabbed a card and asked. “What is Avalon?”
“My home world.” Robyn grinned and reached for the pie.
“Sorry, that’s not the answer on the card” He snatched it away, “And through default I get to keep it.”
“CHEATER!!!!!” Robyn screamed and dove after Ætolus knocking him to the floor.
Jay turned his back to the two as they wrestled over the last pie piece, and faced Nikki. “Did they always fight
like this?”
“I’ll Swallow it!” Ætolus exclaimed as he and Robyn wrestled for the pie piece. “I’ll Swallow it!” He threatened
again
“Not if you don’t have a neck to swallow it with.” Robyn called back and grabbed his shirt neck.
“Popcorn’s Ready!” Duncan, a tall Scottish man with long hair, exclaimed stepping over the two brawlers and
entering the room. Sitting down, he chuckled and nodded towards Robyn. “What are they fighting over now?”
“The pie Piece.” Jay stated and then stared at Nikki expecting something. But Nikki ignored him and began to
dig into the popcorn.
“Well?” Jay asked impatiently.
“Well what?” Nikki and Duncan asked at the same time.
Robyn stopped her brawling for a second and walked over to Nikki, bonking her on the head “That’s MY Job!” She
exclaimed and sat down beside Duncan Protectively.
“Can you tell me the story?” Jay demanded.
Ætolus walked up with a bloody nose and a ripped shirt, held the piece victoriously, and grinned. Within second the bowl of popcorn was on his head and he dropped the piece, which Robyn scooped up and placed in her playing piece.
“There.” She said cheerfully “I win.” Then she began to snuggle up to Duncan.
“But you wasted all that good Popcorn…” Nikki pouted
“Thanks” Ætolus stated gloomily
“WELL?” Jay asked again
“Oh alright.” Robyn exclaimed “Ætolus was born, I wandered by and saved his sorry butt, and we all lived happily
ever after.
“Hey! Tell it like it happened!” Ætolus complained and threw some of the popcorn at her. Sighing, He began the
story himself.
