Diary of Julius Valarian – Nuwmont 1000 AC

Numont 1st 1,000 AC
The new year’s celebration was very tense, as a few days ago, Burr Silecz lost a large number of animals. Nobody moves around at night near the end of the month anymore. Too many animals are disappearing. Mikail told me that the children saw some strange people visiting the Wizard’s tower the night before the animals went missing. One had the flag of the Black Eagle Barony on him.

Emblem of The Black Eagle Barony.

Last night our purple star returned. There was also some strange lights coming from the Tower.

Numont 25th 1,000 AC
Yesterday the sky went dark again, it was only for a moment. But combine that with the fact that last night the Kruschneh farm was raided. It doesn’t seem to matter how we lock the animals in, or what precautions each of us take. Dire wolves have also been seen in the area, which frightens the farmers. I took a stroll, being a retired soldier, I figured I would be safe. The locals would never ask me for help, but I still want to help. And I found the wolves, they only seem to wander near the Tower, almost like they are guarding it.

Today I heard from Vlademar, the Vlem boy, that our Wizard neighbor keeps a female vampire as a slave, and that it is she who is killing the livestick. She comes on a New moon, when it is darkest and takes enough animals for a month’s worth of blood.

I don’t believe this anymore than I believe Dentiata is a werewolf, but just in case I have been escorting Amber home to Runa’s Hovel after each tutoring session.

Diary of Julius Valarian – Kaldmont (New Year Disappearances)

Just a few Notes:
I noticed last night that I had made a mistake, according to the original Source, Julius was originally called “Claudius Valarian”, but my mind keeps calling him Julius, so I am keeping the name. (Hey, it’s my game)

In this series of entries, we hear a lot about the “Black Eagle Barony” but what is that?
While Stephan Karameikos, is the ruler of the Grand Dutchy, when he first arrived he invited family and friends to come help him rule the country by granting land to them. His Cousin Ludwig Von Hendriks was one of these.

Duke Karameikos has since come to regret letting his cousin have land, as the first think Von Hendriks did is violently invade his new capital city BEFORE informing the locals that he had been granted it. He currently rules the Barony with an iron fist, often selling his citizens off as slaves, despite slavery being illegal in the rest of the Grand Duchy. He spends a lot of time trying to cause pain and chaos across Karameikos, in an effort to dethrone his cousin, so he can claim the entire country himself.

The Karameikan Calendar goes something like this:
1) Nuwmont 2) Vatermont 3) Thaumont
4) Flaurmont 5) Yarthmont 6) Klarmont
7) Felmont 8) Fyrmont 9) Ambyrmont
10) Sviftmont 11) Eirmont 12) Kaldmont

Kaldmont 1st 999 AC
The weather is much colder lately, Mikal says that we should prepare for snow any day now.

Kaldmont 27th 999 AC
We have had 3 days of Shooting stars, and then more animals went missing. I got a visit from Headman Grigore today. I think this is the first time he has come to visit. His visit was not very pleasant. He was warning us that we should be sure to stay indoors after sunset for the week around the new moon each month. The rest of town was scared that children would be targeted soon. Apparently, Boris Czigany had lost half his livestock, and only 2 of his sheep had been found in pieces in the woods not far from here.

Katrina, Grigore’s Grand-daughter in law, suspected that the new neighbor Dentiata, was actually a werewolf, and was responsible.

I started my old sword training again tonight. I am getting the feeling I may have to fight sometime to keep my wife safe.

Eirmont 1st 999 AC – Taxes, Again
Tax Collectors came today, we had managed to earn a bit of profit this year, and so were able to pay those taxes without dipping into the savings.

Eirmont 8th 999 AC – Crafts & Guild Day

Adriana was feeling a bit homesick today. Today is a special day in Serriane, called “Crafts & Guild Day”, the way she tried to explain it, it sounded like the Kagyar’s Market we had a couple of months ago. She of course tried to emphasize the differences, such as it is more of a thingy-making showcase. Unfortunately, there was nothing I could do to help her, except to have her try to explain to me all of her new tools and devices she has been working on.

Eirmont 14th 999 AC – Forgiveness Day
Today is Forgiveness Day. A day when you try to make right any wrong-doings you have committed over the year. The idea is that if you ask forgiveness and try to right the wrong on today, you MUST be forgiven. I wonder if this includes wrong doings my people committed to Traladara. I figure I better not push my luck. Instead, I went into town and offered my help with repairing Bram Radescu’s fence that was damaged last night.

Eirmont 24th 999 AC – Charity Day
Today is Charity Day. A name that would cause quite the stir in Thyatis. Most people are too proud to accept charity, on this or any day, there. Vladimir Vlem, and a few others took the opportunity to reinforce old Runa’s House, so that it would hold back the upcoming Winter Winds. I hope it holds.

Eirmont 27th 999
All of Bram Radescu’s livestock went missing last night. This morning, his fence that we repaired was knocked down, his barn was found open, and all of the livestock missing. They were led somewhere because all of the animals went the same direction together, and left quite the trail into the forest. Mikail said that they only found their horses, all 4 of them torn apart by some beasts. Around the same place, all of the other animal’s trails were lost.
